What AI referral traffic is

AI referral traffic is the portion of estimated visits attributed to AI assistants and related discovery surfaces, not to classic search, social, or human referral. The snapshot can include a total visit count for that slice, a share of overall estimated traffic, a split by source name, a month-by-month mix, and prompts associated with the domain.

This is still a third-party estimate, the same family of data as monthly visits on the website traffic checker. It is not server logs, not Search Console, and not an official dashboard from any chatbot vendor. Coverage is uneven. Many domains return empty AI fields because the model does not see enough attributed visits.

Use the number to compare properties in the same niche, or to see whether a site you already know has a detectable AI slice. Do not treat a zero as proof that no human ever arrived from a chatbot. It means this dataset did not attribute a measurable share.

Source mix, chatbot breakdown, and trend

When source data exists, you see named assistants or surfaces and their share of the AI slice. The top source is simply the largest share in that mix, not a ranking of which product is "best." Shares can move month to month. The trend chart is that movement for the months present in the record.

The traffic split and the chatbot list should tell a similar story. If they disagree, prefer the rest of the snapshot and treat the AI block as weak. Empty months are common on smaller sites.

Prompt rows, when present, are queries or prompts the model associates with the domain. They are not a guarantee that your page will appear for those prompts tomorrow. They are a hint at how the domain is described in this dataset.

How AI traffic relates to search and the rest of the site

Organic search and AI referrals are different acquisition paths. A site can rank for many keywords and still show almost no AI slice. Another site can show a noticeable AI share with modest classic search. Neither pattern is a quality score on its own.

If you are researching competitors, run the website traffic checker for volume and source mix, then this page for the AI slice, then domain authority if you care about links. Age from WHOIS does not explain AI referrals. A new domain can appear in assistants; an old domain can be absent.

Content that answers a specific question in plain language is what people usually mean when they talk about "AI visibility." This tool does not crawl your pages or score that writing. It reports attributed visits and related fields from the snapshot.

When the AI fields are empty

Small sites, new sites, and sites with little estimated traffic often have no AI block. International hostnames and apps behind logins are also thin. That is a coverage limit, not a bug in the form.

Cached lookups may reuse a recent snapshot. If you checked the same domain a short time ago, you may see the same AI figures until the cache expires.

Free use is one domain at a time. Credits cover bulk CSV and API access if you are scanning a list for any AI signal at all. Credits do not expire.
